Winter of Hope

WINTER OF HOPE:

featuring works by KangHee Kim, Jeffrey Milstein, Jude Broughan  & Vanessa Albury

BENRUBI PROJECTS: WOODSTOCK

"Winter of Hope" brings together gallery artists KangHee Kim, Jeffrey Milstein, Jude Broughan and Vanessa Albury for a group exhibition at Benrubi Projects: Woodstock. "Winter of Hope" is a collection of work that uplifts us as we move into the new year and a period of our lives unlike any other. These images remind us of our collective desire to look to the future brightly. From KangHee Kim's surreal vision of our human desire to dream into the ordinary and make it extraordinary, to Jeffrey Milstein's celebration of the undying creative output of man and the power of science, "Winter of Hope" gives us blue skies for our first steps into 2021.

KangHee Kim (b. 1991, Korea) works and lives in NYC. She holds a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has shown extensively in group and solo exhibitions throughout the US, South Korea and Japan.

Jeffrey Milstein (Woodstock, NY based) was born in Los Angeles and received his BA in architecture from UC Berkeley IN 1968 before turning to photography. Milstein’s passion for flight led to his most famous series of images of aircraft taken just before they land, when the plane is perpendicular to the camera’s frame. Using archival pigment print and processing techniques that isolate the aircraft in the image, Milstein focuses on color and design to achieve maximum clarity in his images, which the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum mounted in a solo exhibition entitled AirCraft: The Jet as Art in 2011.

Jude Broughan is New Zealand-born artist, now based in Brooklyn, New York.  She has had solo exhibitions at venues including Benrubi Gallery, New York (2020, 2017), Marisa Newman Projects, New York (2017), Calder and Lawson Gallery, Hamilton, New Zealand (2015), Dimensions Variable, Miami (2014), and Churner & Churner, New York (2014). She has been included in numerous group exhibitions and projects, at venues including the MoMA Design Store (2019), Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami (2019); Jarvis Dooney Gallerie, Berlin (2018); Document, Chicago (2017); Sanderson Contemporary Art, Auckland, New Zealand (2017); Magnan Metz, New York (2015); Dorfman Projects, New York (2015); and the Essl Museum, Vienna (2013). Broughan received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, an MFA from Hunter College, and is a 2015 Pollock-Krasner Foundation grantee. Broughan’s work has been discussed in Musée Magazine, Art in America, Blouin Artinfo, Collector Daily, Eye Contact, the Village Voice, and Whitehot Magazine, among others.

Vanessa Albury was born in Nashville, TN in 1978 and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA in Studio Art from New York University’s Steinhardt School. Albury uses analog materials to discuss ephemerality and invites spontaneous occurrences in everyday moments as a means to access the sublime.
